Our team recently spoke with a few international students who got admission to the University of Bradford through Edulytic. From course selection to finding the best biryani spot in town, they shared it all, and we compiled it for you.
Reviews from University Of Bradford Students
First Impressions: Cold Air, Warm People
Almost everyone we spoke to agreed: the first few days in Bradford were a mix of excitement and quiet confusion.
Areeba, a Biomedical Science student from Karachi, laughed while remembering how she had to Google “how to use a radiator” on her first night.
“But people here? They help without you even asking,” she said. “A stranger literally walked me to my bus stop when I got lost on my first day.”
Mahmud from Nigeria felt the same:
“Back home, I heard the UK could be a bit reserved. But Bradford felt different. From classmates to shopkeepers, people talk to you like you’re already part of the city.”
Food As The Unofficial Love Language
It didn’t take long for food to become a central part of everyone’s Bradford experience. Whether it was comfort, celebration, or late-night stress-eating, the city delivered.
Top student favourites?
- MyLahore – “If you haven’t had their butter chicken or milkshakes, you haven’t really lived here,” said Areeba.
- Peacock Bar & Grill – “Great for halal food and affordable enough for a post-exam treat.”
- Forks Café – a go-to for quiet breakfasts and pre-lecture coffee breaks.
Students also recommended exploring Oastler Market for street food and using apps like JustEat and UberEats, especially with student discounts from UNiDAYS and Student Beans.
Where Fun Meets Free Time
When it came to relaxing or exploring, most students were surprised by how much there was to do in and around Bradford.
- National Science and Media Museum: “Free and full of stuff that makes you feel like a kid again.”
- Lister Park: “One of the most peaceful places in the city, especially on sunny days.”
- Sunbridgewells Tunnels: A quirky underground spot filled with vintage shops, bars, and unexpected finds.
Elif, a postgraduate student from Turkey, shared, “I thought I’d be lonely during weekends. But now, even my quiet solo park walks feel like a form of connection to the city and to myself.”
Support Systems that Actually Help
Almost every student mentioned how helpful the University of Bradford’s Wellbeing Services were mostly during the adjustment period.
“I booked a counselling session during my first exam season,” said Areeba. “I didn’t even know how stressed I was until I had someone just listen without judgment.”
Quiet study zones, wellness workshops, and supportive societies also played a big role in helping students find their rhythm.
Doing Life Together
Bradford life taught these students more than academics. It taught them budgeting, balance, and being brave in small, everyday ways.
- Groceries from Morrisons or Asda kept costs manageable.
- Budgeting apps like Emma and Money Dashboard helped track spending.
- A student railcard made spontaneous weekend getaways more doable.
“I used to feel guilty for spending on myself. But here, I learned how to enjoy small things within a budget,” said Mahmud. “It’s freeing.”
Every student we interviewed had a different story, but the takeaway was the same: Bradford gave them more than just an education.
“It gave me confidence. Independence. And people who feel like home,” said Areeba.
Mahmud summed it up beautifully: “I came to study. But somewhere in between bus rides and shared meals, I found a better version of myself.”
And as for Edulytic?
All of them credited the Edulytic team for helping them get here in the first place and being there at every step, from admission guidance and visa support to checking in after they landed.
“Honestly,” said Elif, “I don’t think I would’ve managed the process without them. They were always one message away.”
So if you’re considering Bradford, know this: it might not have the big-city glamour, but it offers something better: a space to grow, belong, and be you.
