UK Student Visa Update 2025 | UKVI Updates for eVisa

If you’re applying for the UK student visa, here’s a must-read update: UK student eVisa (the digital visa system) is now mandatory from 15 July 2025. This means visa vignette stickers are being discontinued, and successful applicants must use a UKVI account for students to access their eVisa before travel. Getting this right is absolutely critical. Miss it and you might be denied boarding!

UK Student Visa Update

What has changed?

Starting 15 July 2025, the UK is phasing out physical visa vignette stickers for student visa holders. Instead, you’re issued a digital eVisa accessible only via your UKVI account once your application is approved. Dependants may still receive physical vignettes, but you, as the main applicant, must rely on the digital system.

Why this shift?

  • Improved security. No more lost or tampered stickers.
  • Faster, streamlined process. Submit biometrics and get your passport back on the same day.
  • Easier verification of status at border, university, landlords, employers.

Why the new eVisa matters for Pakistani Students?

If you’re applying from Pakistan, this update is especially crucial. Missing the student vignette won’t automatically bar you, but forgetting to set up a UKVI account and access your eVisa before your flight very well might! Many students have already seen airlines refusing boarding to those without accessible electronic status.

What you must do:

  1. Create Your UKVI Account for Students: Soon after visa approval, follow the email instructions from UKVI to set up your personal UKVI account. It’s your gateway to the UK student visa eVisa.
  2. Access and Activate Your eVisa: Log in, confirm your details are correct, and ensure they reflect your passport number.
  3. Link Your Travel Document: Ensure your passport is linked to your eVisa in the account before travelling. If you renew your passport, update the account immediately.
  4. Share Your Status with Your University: Get a share code (with your date of birth) from your UKVI account to give to your education provider; they need it to confirm your right to be in the UK.
  5. Travel Only when You’re Fully Set: You cannot board your flight unless your eVisa is activated and linked. Airlines and border officials will verify your digital status.
